Danis Collett
silk painting & mixed media
Bio & Statement
BA/Fine Art, St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY
Diploma in Communications, Simmons College, Boston, MA
Graphic Designer/Art Director, Boston area
With my first brushstroke, painting on silk with dyes met my love of
fluidity and brilliance. What began in 2005 as a creative exploration
alongside my graphic design career, eventually became my full-time
pursuit. As soon as I had the time to devote to it, I began to think more
deeply about the elements in nature that surround us, and to find ways
to express my observations through silk painting.
This work is not a literal portrayal of nature, but a sense of action,
interplay with light — and a statement of “things” being less merely
material than they appear to be.
Working with silk suspended off the wall — in mid-air — allows the silk to be its luscious, flowing self, moving in space with airiness, clarity, and grace. Every work is an exploration of a concept, to convey, to waft toward the viewer.
I hope you'll join me in asking existence to,
"Show me something I haven't noticed yet."
